CrossFit Barrington was introduced into my life at the beginning of my senior year at Barrington High School. I wasn’t the biggest, most athletic, or strongest kids at the time. I was short, chubby, and out of shape. High School was a rough time for me, I had a really hard time with bullies. Whether it was emotional, mental, or physical abuse it would be a daily occurrence. Some cases weren’t that serious and other cases were pretty detrimental. I needed an outlet, needed some “life changing event” that would let me forget about all the rough times.
My lacrosse coaches Chris Bluse, and Brian and Craig Niven, throughout my four years would always emphazise trying out this new “fitness fab” called CrossFit. Like everyone is, I was extremely timid at first, I mean I couldn’t even do a push-up or pull-up! My friend/teammate at the time, Dylan Hutchins, motivated me to try the teens class with him one day. I’m so happy I went with him. It wasn’t an immediate “life changing event”, but over time it did change my life and it is exactly what I needed. I look back and I don’t even know who the “Old Chris Cronin” is anymore.
CrossFit Barrington is more than just a gym, it’s a community of support, education, and encouragement to achieve your fitness goals. The journey to reach any goal you set may take a little longer than you’d hope. Just be patient, work hard, have some fun, and most importantly, never give up.
Past Sports/ Events/ Activities:
BHS Lacrosse 2009-2013- Captain for three years, Duchossois Award 2013
Everyone that walks through the doors of CFB. They all have a goal, they all show up the next day, and they all give 100% when inside. That is what inspires me, as a coach and as an owner. Witnessing athletes push themselves and others to become the best version of themselves every day, and that’s pretty cool.
