Real People. Real Stories. Real Answers.
When did you start doing CrossFit?
I started CFB in April 2013.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am 36 years old, I am married to Kristina (9:30am class), and we have 3 kids—Carson, Morgan, and Brynn. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2000, and I’ve worked in Sales for CDW Corporation ever since. We live in Cary.
What was your fitness routine before CrossFit?
I did the whole P90X video routine for about a year and a half prior to starting CrossFit. It was extremely boring and predictable, and I ended up skipping most days that involved anything but push-ups.
Angie (I like the body weight stuff), Linda (this was great last December), Murph (super challenging)
Least favorite WOD?
14.5 from this past spring. It gave me the most sickening feeling of my life.
Squat cleans or front squats
Lease favorite lift?
OHS or Snatch
How has your view about CrossFit changed since your first WOD at CFB?
I don’t think I really knew what true commitment to an exercise program was until CF. I credit my 6am buddy, Nate Olson, with introducing me to CFB in the first place. I heard him talk about it for months before I finally gave it a shot, and I’ve never looked back since. Not only am I committed to CF, but I actually get upset if my something comes up that interferes with my daily routine now.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit? And have you achieved any of these goals?
My biggest goal was to be healthier. I sit behind a desk all day at work, and I struggled with finding something that would serve as a release for the daily stress.
I wanted to feel better about myself as well. I can honestly say that I have more energy, I’m stronger, I eat better, and I feel more balanced.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
I love CFB. I love the energy it’s given me, I love the bond that it’s given my wife and I as we’re busy raising a family, I love the fact that my kids know about CF and our healthy lifestyle, I love the friends I’ve made at my 6am crew, I love everything about it.
CF has been a life-changer, and I am very grateful that my family and I are now healthier because of it.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Barrington?
I encourage new members to go all-in right from the beginning. Commit to showing up consistently from the start, and find a buddy to go with you that will hold you accountable. Have an open mind to not only the exercise program, but towards your diet and amount of sleep you’re getting as well. It’s a lot of fun to challenge yourself to be as good as you can be.
