How and when did you start doing CrossFit?
My family attended CFB’s grand opening in September 2011. My son Carter was coached by Brian Niven as a Freshman and all the BHS Lacrosse families were invited. I knew nothing about CrossFit. Chris Bluse demonstrated some of the movements and invited us to check it out for a couple weeks. Carter joined after his first workout and I attended occasionally before officially joining in November 2011. I joined in an effort to physically keep up with my boys as long as possible! I still tell people it’s the hardest most fun thing you can do to get in the best shape of your life!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Family? Job? Hobbies?
I’m blessed to be married to Celeste for over 26 years (even if she is one of those runner types!). My two boys, Carter and Griffin, played every sport growing up, both finishing with Varsity Lacrosse in High School. CrossFit gave them confidence, speed and strength to excel. CFB really became our family in 2014 when Carter had Leukemia. The support was unimaginable and I still give Brian and Leigh Niven a hug every time I see them. Carter is a Jr at Indiana U. and Griffin is a Soph. at Iowa State active in Navy ROTC. My job is just something I do during the day between CrossFit, walking our dogs (Sadie and Aspen) and hanging out with my wife and friends. Northern Trust for 30 years; Performance Consultant, if you must know. My hobbies are exercise, my dogs, my family, food, coffee and beer!
