DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD.
When did you start doing CrossFit?
Late January 2014
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in the Fox Point neighborhood of Barrington with my wife Andrea and 2 year old son Luca. We are expecting our second child in June. I grew up in Palatine playing youth soccer, spending lots of outdoor-time in Wisconsin and getting pummeled by my 3 older brothers (okay fine … my 3 older sisters too).
Being active has always been a way of life for me and having a workout everyday makes me a better husband and father. I enjoy working on my house and love to be outside in my own backyard. Doing everything from splitting wood to gardening could keep my busy and content for days on end. My wife and mother-in-law say I have “Pepe in Culo” (Pepper in my Ass) because I always have to be doing something. They claim I can’t just sit and relax … but really … what fun is that? I have a self-diagnosed hyperactive imagination which I use often. If I had a super-ability, it would be to be able to go without sleep – think of all you’d get done! If I had a super-power, it would be to control the weather. I also like using ellipses … I find them funny …
What was your fitness routine before CrossFit?
An inconsistent mix of P90X workouts in my basement, swimming, running and water polo.
There are so many I have yet to do. So far my favorite is Helen. But I am really looking forward to Murph on Memorial Day.
Least favorite WOD?
Chest to bar pull-ups
Least favorite lift?
Stone to shoulder
How has your view about CrossFit changed since your first WOD at CFB?
I didn’t know much of anything about CrossFit initially. With all the hype, I expected it to be for tools and muscle heads. Instead, CrossFit is a diverse, supportive and positively competitive family. CrossFit is the perfect way to start the day.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of these goals?
I had fallen out of a workout routine and was having trouble staying committed without a team environment. Honestly, I just wanted a jumpstart to consistently get in 5 workouts a week again. I had no idea I would enjoy it so much.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
My lower back has not felt this good in years.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Barrington?
Throw yourself fully into the culture. Listen to your coaches. Cheer for your fellow CrossFitters.
