How and when did you start doing CrossFit?
Six months after my husband Pete joined, he convinced me that I would LOVE it. Despite being a runner who couldn’t do a push-up let alone move a barbell, this ONE time, he was right. I came on “bring a friend” day and three years later I’m still in love (with CrossFit and Pete).
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Family? Job? Hobbies?
I’m married to fellow 5am wodder, Pete Schenck. We have two kids, Lily (nearly 13) and Sam (8). I work in first grade at Hough Street School and love (almost) every minute of it. Just like my own kids, first graders will let you know exactly what they think of you and your new haircut. My hobbies include doing CrossFit, talking about CrossFit (j/k, sort of) and power napping.
Favorite WOD and Favorite Movement?
Filthy Fifty, Fight Gone Bad, Helen (What do all of these WODs have in common? Light weight.)
Favorite movement: pull-up because I started CrossFit thinking I’d never be able to do one. I used to watch all the strong girls do them and think, “that will never be me.” And now, I can do more than one. This gives me hope that one day, maybe, just maybe, I’ll get a muscle-up.
Least favorite WOD and Least Favorite Movement?
Nancy because overhead squats are the devil.
Your Favorite junk food?
Jeni’s Darkest Chocolate ice cream followed by Graeter’s Mint Chip. It’s my Sunday treat.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you want with you?
See above. Plus a toothbrush.
Describe yourself in one word?
If you could create a WOD, what would it look like?
Long and light: double unders, wall balls, pull-ups with a one mile run buy-in and cash out. And then everyone would hate me.
