DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD.
When did you start doing CrossFit?
On my 36th birthday! December 9, 2013
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a wife and mother to 2 boys ages 7 and 22mos and work full time as a hotel general manager. I spend my free time with my family who are all local to the Barrington area. We are a very tight knit family so not a day goes by I don’t see my parents, siblings or nephews and nieces. (My lil sis is a fellow CFBer). Family gatherings are a normal weekend for us and we enjoy watching the kids create their bonds. My dad always makes the comment, “Why pay 8 bucks at the movies when I get free entertainment right here in my back yard.”
What was your fitness routine before CrossFit?
Nothing! I traded my health for work for 15 years!
Least favorite WOD?
Anything with running. (I’d rather do burpees!)
Lease favorite lift?
How has your view about CrossFit changed since your first WOD at CFB?
I thought I was gonna die! My lungs burned, my hands, arms and legs shook; I had trouble with stairs for the entire first week. But I kept going and keep getting stronger and now I love the burn. My view of CrossFit now isn’t just my daily workout; it’s my daily challenge to better myself both physically and mentally. The CFB coaches are always there supporting, encouraging and challenging you. You can see the passion that all of the coaches have for fitness and overall wellness. They really are the driving force behind the community that is CFB.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit? And have you achieved any of these goals?
I joined CFB to get healthy. I hadn’t consistently worked out since my collegiate soccer days. My initial goal of making fitness an unquestionable part of my day has been achieved. I get seriously bent out of shape if something gets in the way of making it to CFB.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
Outside the gym I am more active than ever. I get excited about going new places and doing new things because now it’s fun, not just effort. On a recent family vacation my sister made the comment “Wow, it’s nice to see the old Kate back; swimming, playing, body surfing…having fun.”
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Barrington?
